Before your visit

You can book your appointment online or by contacting our reception team at Manuka Street Hospital. If this is your first appointment please arrive 10 minutes before the appointment time to allow any paperwork to be completed.

We ask that you wear loose fitting clothing and if you have mobility issues please bring a support person to help. 

The following appointments require you to consume only water in the four hours prior to your examination to improve the image quality;

• Renal artery ultrasound

• Leg artery ultrasound

• Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) ultrasound

• Abdominal artery Doppler ultrasound (aorta and iliac arteries)

• Endovascular Aortic Repair (EVAR) surveillance ultrasound

• Mesenteric artery ultrasound

• Ovarian vein ultrasound

During your examination

We will ask you to remove any clothing covering the area we need to examine with ultrasound. You will recline on a bed with a pillow. Linen will be provided to keep you warm and covered. Warm gel and an ultrasound camera will be applied to your skin. Pictures of your blood vessels and their flow will be taken by a specialist sonographer. The specialist sonographer will give you a verbal result at the end of the ultrasound.

After your appointment

We strive to provide formal reports within the same day and these will be sent electronically to your referring clinician. If you would like a copy please let us know so we can print this off, or place this on a USB drive for you.
